@AlexisfromSetup's Top 5 Ad Picks This Week

This blog was written by Setup’s Business Development + Marketing Associate, Alexis Quarcoo.

Setup’s Business Development and Marketing Associate, Alexis Quarcoo, has an ongoing series on her Twitter account, @Alexisfromsetup (please follow!), where she highlights her favorite ad of the week. She is drawn to ads that stand out creatively, have captivating and thought-provoking messaging, or are just plain funny.

Check out this compilation of the latest top 5 ads (in no particular order) she believes you need to see!

Ad #1: “Archer Roose Wines Presents: Talking Wine with Elizabeth Banks I Wine Tasting in the Metaverse”

Archer Roose Wines teamed up with Colossus Agency to create a fun ad starring actor Elizabeth Banks. The ad is meant to be a cheeky dig at the ambiguity of the metaverse. In the spot, Banks sports a pair of trendy sunglasses and "seemly" enters into the metaverse with her wine.

Why @Alexisfromsetup liked this:

I love this ad for its simplicity and dry humor. Elizabeth Banks does a great job featuring the product while also touching on current events. I also definitely related to her confusion about the metaverse.

Ad #2: “Volvo Trucks – A Love Story”

Created by Forsman & Bodenfors New York, the ad follows two Volvo trucks' “love story,” which is oddly sweet.

Why @Alexisfromsetup liked this:

This ad is so cute! It’s so strange to say that about trucks falling in love, but they really do a good job “marrying” the importance of fuel efficiency with fun along the journey. The ad is also visually appealing, creative, and easily catches viewers’ attention.

Ad #3: DC SHOES: PUSH YOUR OWN STORY | BROOKLINN KHOURY

This DC Shoes ad features the inspirational story of model and skateboarder Brooklinn Khoury, who was attacked by a dog and suffered significant injuries to her face. Her story is one of accepting major change and loving herself at each stage of her journey.

Why @Alexisfromsetup liked this?

I’ve followed Brooklinn’s journey since the beginning and she has helped me, along with countless others, on a self-love journey. She shared, “In a week [since the attack] I’ve just learned to love myself and accept what I look like right now. This is not what I’m going to look like for the rest of my life, and if it was, I would just learn to love and accept myself.” Her resilience and ability to find the positive from a life-altering event is so inspiring so I had to share her story.

Ad #4: Quantifying a Load | Steve Burns Investigates | Flock Freight

This ad from Flock Freight, created in partnership with Maximum Effort tries to quantify the term “F***load.” What makes the ad even more ironic is that Steve Burns, the actor from the iconic children's show Blue’s Clues, is the one asking the question.

Why @Alexisfromsetup liked this:

I loved this ad because it effectively delivers the message that Flock Freight can help ease supply chain issues in a humorous and nostalgic tone. Steve Burns is also the perfect actor to have in this ad because he historically helped Blue, the puppy in Blue’s Clues, solve mysteries, so this is another investigation he can add to his resume.

Ad #5: Snapchat | Wait’ll You See This

This ad, led by Snap Inc. Chief Creative Officer, Colleen DeCourcy, leans into SnapChat’s filter feature and amplifies it as augmented reality. The ad is a trippy take on what users could experience when they use the filters in the social media app.

Why @Alexisfromsetup liked this:

This ad is interesting because it helps viewers see Snapchat in a different light. Most people are aware that Snapchat has filters, but the ad takes the filters a step further and shows that they can actually change the way you see reality - which, to me, is equally cool and trippy.

I post ads that bring joy or strike me as a Marketer weekly on Twitter. So give me a follow to follow the fun, and tag me if you ever come across an ad that resonates with you and you want to chat about it!
