Marketers Toolbox: Slack

Note: The Marketers Toolbox series teaches our readers about new technology we're using (or experimenting with) that proves to be useful, productive, or just plain entertaining. As a marketer's secret weapon, Setup believes that the tools we use are vital to our success, thus, a marketer's toolbox is truly one of our most important resources.

This week's Marketers Toolbox installment highlights one of the fastest-growing communications and project management tools on the market.

Slack provides large groups of employees the ability to communicate with each other without massive email threads. Companies like HBO, Venmo, Sony, Crossfit, and Dell use Slack as a team messaging app that allows their business to reduce the amount of time they waste on email and other forms of messaging.

Slack makes it easy to quickly combine all forms of communication in order to get things done in the most efficient way possible, and also helps satellite employees to easily stay connected and up to speed with the team.

Within the app are chat rooms called “channels” that allow users to segment different teams within the company. Other features include private chatting, automatic archiving, an advanced search engine, and the ability to sync seamlessly across any device. The archival search capability enables team members to quickly bring themselves up to speed, if they miss time at work.

More than one million daily Slack users share their desktop files instantly through a drag-and-drop feature, and the search engine allows quick recovery of past files and easy sharing with others in the group. With customizable notifications users can be notified for different messages or keywords, and can use simple message buttons to save even more time. See how they work in this video:

Slack integrates with Twitter, Dropbox, and many other tools in order to reduce switching between apps. Tools are offered for beginners such as the Slack Guides and Video Guides for quick and easy tips.

In addition to the free, simple, plan, Slack offers a Standard Plan for $6.67/user per month providing unlimited archive memory, unlimited apps, Google authentication, guest access, and more. One step up is the Plus Plan at $12.50/user per month that provides businesses SSO, compliance exports, and guaranteed uptime. The Enterprise Plan, will be released later in 2016 for large corporations with multiple Slack teams.
