Setup Proudly Stands with Georgia Prospers
It wasn't long after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of federally legalizing same-sex marriage that we witnessed discrimination at the state level in the form of Kim Davis, a county clerk who denied Kentucky marriage licenses to several gay couples because she opposed their lifestyle choice.
This week, Georgia affirmed America's clichéd perception of Southern intolerance, and passed the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), bill which protects individuals, corporations, and even government employees that refuse service to same-sex couples and other minorities on the grounds of "religious freedom."
Georgia companies (including Setup) are vocalizing their opposition to this despicable bill and their support for same-sex marriage with Georgia Prospers, a coalition of more than 300 businesses committed to fair treatment of all residents and visitors to our state.
Home to some of America's most highly recognized companies like Coca-Cola, The Home Depot, UPS, Delta Airlines, and Aflac – as well as major television networks like Turner and CNN – Georgia is ranked as the best state in the nation to do business, and has the number one business climate, according to the Georgia Prospers website.
We're not entirely sure why a few bad apples are destroying the "Too Busy To Hate" reputation that Georgia has painstakingly built. Some businesses like 373K Inc. – a telecommunications provider – have publicly demonstrated their discontent by announcing plans to relocate.
Individuals who want to voice their concerns can sign this petition provided by Georgia Unites Against Discrimination, a grassroots campaign dedicated to protecting the rights of gay and transgender Georgians.
Here's hoping our collective efforts will defy government sanction, promote tolerance, and repair our brand as the state that's too busy to hate.
