Questions Brands Should Answer Before Selecting A Marketing Agency

Here at Setup, we are constantly collecting data about how Brands and Agencies connect with each other and subsequently work together through conversations, research, and our annual Marketing Relationship Survey.

Check out the 2023 Marketing Relationship Survey results here.

Our job is to connect marketers with the best people and resources to optimize their role. We strive to make Client-side marketers’ lives easier by connecting them with the right marketing Agency for them. Before we make connections for Clients with potential Agency partners, we like to understand the Brand’s needs.

These are questions that, on the surface, seem to be serving the Agency… but by answering them, the Client can ensure that their needs are better met (and can better prepare themselves for their next RFP process!).

If you are a Client-side marketer, ask yourself these questions before hopping into your next Agency relationship:

Budget:

  • Has the project been budgeted? What is the budget range?

Authority:

  • Who on your team will be involved in the selection of the Agency?

Need:

  • What is the nature of the project for which you need help?

  • What is the business driver that caused this project to be considered?

Timeline:

  • When are you looking to launch and complete the project?

  • Are there factors that could affect the timing of the project?

In addition to these key questions, we recommend asking about desired outcomes, past Agency relationship learnings, and the selection process.

Answering these questions results in a better match with the right Agency which ultimately helps solve the marketing challenges. Whether you are answering for yourself or giving us all the details to prepare a Marketing Brief that could lead to an opportunity, we're making sure that you have your priorities aligned so that all the pieces can form to make the perfect puzzle.
