Q1 | Tell us about your career path.
Hagan has been at RxBenefits for three years and, prior to that, she spent the first 20 years of her career on the provider side of Healthcare Information Technology. This included ten years of marketing software applications to ambulatory physician practices, and then ten years at Cerner Corporation working in the acute Healthcare space. This experience led her to be the first marketing leader at RxBenefits as the VP of Marketing.
Q2 | Is there any advice that you would like to share?
Hagan had three points:
Always follow the patient in Healthcare,
Fight the good fight, and
Do the change management work that's necessary to focus on the consumer.
All of Hagan’s work and mission is centered around the customer. Without serving them, there is no purpose.
Q3 | What is your Superpower?
“Finding a way to inspire my teams to greatness has really been what has perpetuated and fueled my career,” Hagan shared. She is great at building and encouraging teams to be their best. She does this by finding the right people who are coachable. “I look for people who have the right attitude and aptitude and heart, who really buy into the mission of the company…and are working for more than driving revenue or driving clicks or whatever.”
Q4 | Where do you find your inspiration?
Since childhood, Hagan has had a fascination with Disney and their consumer experience. She believes “Healthcare needs to shape shift to deliver a more Disney-like experience to Healthcare consumers. They just do a great job - it's such an immersive experience when you think about the brand and that childhood wonder.”
Hagan believes there is something magical about the brand’s ability to transport consumers to a different universe of positivity and imagination, and that Healthcare would be better for tapping into that beauty.
Q5 | What values are important to you?
Teamwork and trust is essential to Hagan’s success. “We win and fail as a team,” she stated.
The importance of everyone having ownership gives everyone a stake in the success and failure - “it accelerates the value that each person brings.”
With having a successful and unified team, it’s also important, especially in marketing, to have a diversified team built on trust. She pointed out, “Finding people that bring different perspectives and talents together but are good people so that we have that dynamic in the workplace of trust - I always say a team is not a group of people who work together, it's any team of people who trust each other.”
